Twitching Lower Back - How To Decrease Pain and Promote Good Posture

Have you suddenly felt a twitching in your lower back?

Does it come on suddenly and take you by surprise?

1.) Introduction

Lower back muscle spasms are not uncommon among people with poor health. Overexertion is usually the cause in most cases and you can expect it to subside in a few days. Since everybody knows that prevention is better than cure, you may start doing exercises that will keep the condition from afflicting you. (For the best exercise program, it is always important to consult a licensed physical trainer.)

2.) Addressing the Problem - Hot and Cold Applications

Identify correctly the area where the twitching is taking place. Wrap an ice block and apply it to the spot for 10 or 15 minutes, taking the towel off and putting on again all the while. You can repeat this whenever the spasm returns. You will probably need to do this for 2 or 3 days, after which the spasms stop appearing. When this happens, you should apply hot compresses to the area. You may also take a hot shower to help relax the muscles in your lower spine.

A.) Your Doctor's Role With Respect To Back Pain

Consulting your doctor is always a very good option. You may not need surgery at all when it comes to a twitch in your back, but if the back pain is significant enough, then sometimes it is the only option for people. Many times physician's will turn to their local, licensed orthotist to help their patients get a back brace for pain reduction purposes.

B.) Conservative Treatment Options That Work

One of the best ways to help treat a hurt back is by using a spinal support. These braces can be prefabricated or provided to you off of the shelf. Some are great and some really should not be sold at all! This is why we recommend that you consult your local, licensed orthotist for your brace needs. These individuals can help you reduce your back pain because of the support that these braces provide. And, yes, these braces can be worn under a shirt and typically, people will only know that you have one on if you tell them you do.

Note: This is health information. The best medical advice on back pain comes from your physician. Moreover, the best medical advice on bracing should be provided to you by your local, licensed orthotist.
